We were facing Labour Shortage on Dragon Boat Festival and why did Green Glass Green suspend the collection service? It is simply because there is lots of glass being collected and stored at the bars on Friday night. It needs to be clear, Soho in particular. And it is not easy to shift the practice of bar staff when that have been accustomed to it.
Nick, an American young guy from Maryland, comes to HK to visit his girlfriend. He had been frustrated to find glass recycling facilities that is NOT a problem in the States. It was a Saturday morning in May, Nick came to Luard Rd. Glass Collection Point with the girlfriend and glass bottles from Tin Shui Wan. Since then he has made a record of “NO missing” every collection day either it is rainy or sunny. He also made a record of punctuality, always shows up at 6:15am for glass pick up in Wanchai and Soho.
Knowing the issue of labour shortage this morning, Nick mobilized the girlfriend to help before her work at 11:00am at Yan O.
Next Wednesday Nick is going back to the States. He understands Green Glass really needs helping hands and says , “I wish I could stay longer and help. April, when you stick to the mission of glass recycling, there will be someone to come to help.”
I don’t know what to pay for his full support, not the money for his laboring and transportation for the last 5 weeks; but the appreciation and respect to his ecological view and manner. I will definitely stick to the mission and believably we will have easier time in glass recycling very soon.
