Southside Glass Initiative

This pilot project has come swiftly just some two weeks ago.  We are lucky to have a bunch of Southside locals who have long been keen on glass recycling to organise and liaise.

In my past 15 years living in Hong Kong I’ve been waiting for the day the glass we used at home can be recycled”, said Christine, a Stanley resident.

Southside Glass Recycling radiates from Stanley.  A collection centre will be set up in Stanley Plaza with glass collection bins for community use on the 3rd floor.  Businesses on Stanley Main Street are targets for glass recycling. We will also consider participation of the residence complexes en route depending on the availability of transport.

The community collection point in Stanley Plaza operates from 11am to 2pm.  In addition to a part-time staff, we need one volunteer to help each time.  The bars and restaurants on Stanley Main Street taking part in glass recycling will perform source separation and gather sacks of bottles on a designated location for our collector to deliver to the central glass collection site.

Southside Glass Recycling Initiative” is an environmental protection pilot project sponsored by Southern District Council and EPD.  The Hong Kong Dumper Truck Drivers Association is responsible to oversee and assist, while the job is mainly on the enthusiastic Southside glass friends’ hands.  Stanley Plaza also supports by provision of collection point and logistic assistance.  We hope that collaboration like this between the locals, civil organization and business would bring dynamics and a new option to glass recycling.

Southside Glass Recycling Initiative” – Kick off on 1 December!
